Baronton Terry joined the LIU men’s basketball coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 season. 
Prior to being named to the Shark coaching staff, Terry served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities, Events and Operations at LIU beginning in 2025. In this role, Terry oversaw athletic facility operations, managed events, and implemented strategies to enhance event efficiency and facility usage.  
Terry previously was the associate head men’s basketball coach at Chicago State University for three seasons, from 2021-2024. With Terry on the coaching staff, the Cougars improved their win total from each of the past seasons, including a top 25 upset on the road over Northwestern in the 2023-24 season.  
With the Cougars, Terry developed and mentored two players who declared for the NBA Draft, recruited three top-100 high school prospects, and helped the team maintain a 3.0 GPA. On the administrative side, Terry oversaw scheduling, academic support, budgeting, and overall team management. 
Before rising to the collegiate ranks, Terry was the head coach of several varsity boys basketball programs from 1998-2020.  
His coaching career began in 1998 at Miami Northwestern High School in Florida, where he garnered back-to-back Miami-Dade County Coach of the Year honors in his first two seasons. Under Terry, the team won regional championships in four straight seasons, from 2001-04. 
Terry then moved on to coach at South Mecklenburg High School in North Carolina, winning three regional championships from 2008-10. Coaching at West Charlotte High School from 2010-2016, Terry’s team won a Class 4A state championship in 2011 and was the state runner-up in 2012. The team was a Hoodie Award finalist in 2010, a sectional champion in 2013 and a regional finalist in 2014. 
His most recent stop in high school basketball was at Olympic High School in Charlotte, where he was named the Coach of the Year in 2017 and won back-to-back conference championships in 2017 and 2018. 
Terry has plenty of experience in AAU basketball, serving as a coach with the EYBL 17s and 16s, a Jordan Brand Game coach, a Nike Elite Camps coach, a Nike Victor Oladipo Camp coach. He was also the head coach of Team Breakdown 16U and Team United 16s. 
Academically, Terry holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Florida Memorial University
