AMHERST, N.Y. — The Long Island University men's volleyball team (12-13, 4-5 NEC) bounced back from an early deficit to defeat Daemen University in four sets on the road on Friday night.
While the Sharks fell 25-22 in Friday's opening set, LIU quickly stormed back to tie the match at one with a 25-15 win in the second frame.
Friday's third set was a back-and-forth affair, featuring seven lead changes and each team finding themselves tied on 14 occasions. With Daemen leading 21-20 late in the set, LIU scored five of the next seven points to claim a 25-23 win, taking a 2-1 lead in the match on a kill by senior Kale Spencer.
Daemen jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in Friday's fourth set, though a four-point LIU scoring run put the Sharks ahead 6-5. With each side continuing to battle in a pivotal NEC matchup, the Sharks found themselves tied at 24 late in the set. Following a Wildcat attack error, LIU sealed the win with a service ace by senior Isaac Benka.
Spencer led LIU with 22 kills and three service aces in the win, posting a season-high hitting percentage of .500 with only two attack errors. Sophomore Owen Holowecky posted 38 assists, while senior Slater Fuhrman (12) and redshirt sophomore Heston Cabinian (10) each totaled double-digit digs.
LIU returns to action on Saturday, April 11, at 4 p.m. against Daemen.
