BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University softball team completed its sweep of Le Moyne College on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Dolphins 5-4 at the LIU Softball Complex in Brooklyn.
LIU jumped out to an early lead with an RBI double by junior Lily Hinkle in the bottom of the second inning, though the Dolphins respond two innings later with a two-RBI single to go up 2-1 in the game.
Freshman Anais Soto answered by scoring off a Le Moyne error in the bottom of the fourth inning, and junior Jaedyn Lincoln put the Sharks ahead for good with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Three at-bats later, sophomore Hannah Burnett added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.
Le Moyne cut the LIU lead to one in the bottom of the sixth, though the Sharks held on to improve to 3-0 in NEC play.
LIU returns to action on Wednesday, March 18, when the Sharks travel to Columbia University for a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m.
