BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's basketball team (16-8, 10-1 NEC) rallied from its halftime deficit against Stonehill College on Saturday, coming back to defeat the Skyhawks 61-54 inside the Steinberg Wellness Center.
Stonehill led for the majority of Saturday's first half, as the Skyhawks held a 29-26 advantage after the first 20 minutes of action. Late baskets by redshirt senior Malachi Davis and graduate student Caleb Johnson helped bring the Sharks with three points at halftime.
The Skyhawks extended their lead to as many as eight points early in Saturday's second half, though the Sharks began to chip away; just under seven minutes into the second half, a three-point basket by graduate student Jamal Fuller put the Sharks ahead for the first time in nearly 20 minutes of game time.
Each team traded baskets over the next six minutes of the game, but the Sharks received some breathing room on back-to-back layups by junior Jomo Goings and Davis. Late free throws helped seal LIU's eventual seven-point win.
Davis led all scorers with 17 points, followed closely by Fuller with 16. Sophomore Shadrak Lasu tied for a game-high 11 rebounds, while Fuller led the Sharks with four assists. Lasu also blocked a game-high six shots in the win.
The Sharks return to the floor on Thursday, Feb. 12, when they travel to face Wagner College at 7 p.m.
