Sharks Bounce Back with Double-Digit Win Over Wagner

Jamal Fuller scores 20 points, Malachi Davis finishes with 19 in win over Seahawks

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's basketball team (18-9, 12-2 NEC) got back in the win column with a win over Wagner College on Monday night, defeating the Seahawks 83-65 in Brooklyn.

Monday's game was a result of a previous rescheduling, as the Sharks were originally scheduled to host Wagner on Jan. 25. LIU played Wagner just four days prior, defeating the Seahawks 67-57 on the road on Thursday.

While LIU took an early 3-2 lead on a three-pointer by graduate student Jamal Fuller, Wagner stormed back to build a 12-5 lead at the first media timeout, fueled by back-to-back three-pointers.

LIU responded by outscoring the Seahawks 15-7 over the next six-and-a-half minutes of play, taking the lead back on a made three-pointer by redshirt senior Malachi Davis. The Sharks held on to the lead for the remainder of the first half, taking a 37-31 score into the break.

The Sharks opened the second half on a quick 10-4 scoring run, extending the lead to double digits. 10 second-half Seahawk turnovers helped the Sharks claim their eventual 18-point home victory.

Fuller led LIU with 20 points, while Davis was closely behind with 19 points. Senior Greg Gordon and junior Jomo Goings each scored in double figures, finishing with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Sophomore Shadrak Lasu, Gordon, and Fuller all tied for a game-high six rebounds, while Goings led the Sharks with five assists. Lasu blocked four shots in the win, and is now averaging 2.9 blocks over his last seven games.

The Sharks hit the road on Thursday, Feb. 19, to take on Saint Francis University at 7 p.m.
