BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Long Island University is nearing completion of a major athletics facilities project featuring three newly renovated, state-of-the-art turf fields across its 354-acre LIU Post campus, further enhancing the university's NCAA Division I athletics facilities and student-athlete experience.
The project supports LIU's men's and women's lacrosse, field hockey, and men's and women's soccer programs, providing modern facilities designed to elevate athletic performance, training, competition, and the overall game-day experience.
The first of the three newly renovated fields opened just a few weeks ago and is already in use. A second field is expected to be completed later this month, with the third and final field scheduled for completion later this fall.
The new Field Hockey, Lacrosse, and Soccer Multipurpose Turf Field, measuring 380 feet by 255 feet, is nestled adjacent to the Pratt Athletic Center and Shark Stadium, providing a versatile competition and training surface for multiple Division I programs. The South Upper Field, also measuring 380 feet by 255 feet, will feature a regulation-size playing surface for NCAA Division I soccer. The South Lower Field will provide a fenced, multipurpose surface designed for recreation, intramural and club sports, and multi-sport practices, expanding opportunities for the broader campus community.
"This project represents a significant investment in LIU Athletics and continues our plan to provide leading facilities for our student-athletes and coaches," said
Elliott Charles, Director of Athletics at Long Island University. "We are committed to creating an environment that supports competitive excellence, enhances the student-athlete experience, and gives our programs the resources and facilities necessary to compete at the highest level. These improvements reflect the continued growth and ambition of LIU Athletics."
Beyond enhancing training and competition, the project is transforming the overall look and feel of LIU's athletics complexes, creating a more modern, dynamic, and cohesive environment for student-athletes, coaches, families, and fans. The upgraded facilities will elevate the game-day atmosphere while strengthening the campus experience and reflecting the university's continued commitment to Division I athletics excellence.
The improvements come amid continued competitive success for LIU Athletics. The Sharks recently captured their second consecutive NEC Commissioner's Cup, recognizing the university's overall athletic achievement across conference-sponsored sports.
Building on that momentum, the completion of these state-of-the-art facilities further positions LIU as a competitive leader in the NEC and underscores the university's commitment to the continued success of its student-athletes, coaches, and Division I athletics programs.
