BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- Long Island University Athletics has once again been nominated for Best College Sports Program in the 2027 Best of Long Island Awards, seeking a seventh consecutive honor after winning the category in each of the past six years.

The nomination follows another championship year for the Sharks. LIU captured the NEC Commissioner's Cup, recognizing the strongest overall athletic program in the conference based on performance across NEC-sponsored sports, while Shark teams continued to capture conference championships across multiple programs.

That momentum has carried into the fall semester, with LIU Athletics already achieving success on the national stage. Women's volleyball earned consecutive victories over Power 4 opponents Virginia Tech and Duke, including the program's first-ever victory over a Power 4 opponent.

"We are honored to once again be nominated for Best College Sports Program and to have the opportunity to showcase the strength of LIU Athletics and what our programs bring to the Long Island community," said LIU Director of Athletics Elliott Charles. "This recognition is a reflection of our incredible student-athletes and coaches, whose commitment and achievements continue to make LIU the preeminent athletic program on Long Island and one that competes on the national stage. Fins Up!"

For the first time, Men's Ice Hockey Head Coach Brendan Riley has also been nominated for Best College Sports Coach, adding another LIU Athletics nomination to this year's awards. Riley begins his second season leading the Sharks and will guide LIU into the inaugural Empire State Holiday Invitational at UBS Arena on December 28–29, presented in partnership with the New York Islanders, further showcasing LIU Hockey on one of the region's premier stages.

LIU has established an unmatched record of success in the Best of Long Island competition, winning more awards than any other university in the contest's history. In addition to its six consecutive Best College Sports Program awards, LIU has been recognized across multiple categories throughout the competition.

For 2027, LIU is also nominated for Best College or University, College President, Theatre Arts Center, and Mascot.

Voting is open once per day through December 15. Click here to vote.
