HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Long Island University men's basketball team (11-7, 5-0 NEC) returned to the floor after a week off on Saturday night, defeating FDU 66-59 on the road to improve to 5-0 in conference play.
The win secured LIU's fifth 5-0 start to NEC play in program history, joining the 1996-97, 2009-10, 2011-12, and 2024-25 teams.
FDU took a 17-10 lead over LIU just over midway through the first half, but an extended 21-4 LIU scoring run, capped off with a dunk by senior Greg Gordon, allowed the Sharks to go up by double-digits with under to minutes until halftime. As the teams entered the locker rooms after the first 20 minutes of play, LIU held a 31-26 lead over the Knights.
The Knights cut into the Shark lead through the early minutes of the second half, eventually taking a one-point lead just under six minutes into the second half; the next four minutes of the game saw six lead changes, as LIU took the lead back on a layup by redshirt senior Malachi Davis. LIU held on to the lead for eventual seven-point road win.
Gordon led all scorers with 16 points in the win, followed closely by Davis with 15 points. Junior Jomo Goings also finished with double-digit points, scoring 13 in the win. Goings and sophomore Shadrak Lasu collected a team-high seven rebounds in the win, while Davis led LIU with seven assists.
The Sharks travel north to Syracuse to face off against Le Moyne College on Monday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m.
