EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -
Grace Babington scored twice and the Long Island University women's ice hockey team (9-12-1, 7-8-1 NEWHA) downed Saint Michael's College (1-19-0, 1-15-0 NEWHA), 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Northwell Health Ice Center, earning a sweep of the weekend pair.
Drew Dyczkowski added a goal and an assist,
Paige Vreeman recorded two assists, and redshirt sophomore goaltender
Victoria Rutnik stopped all 15 shots faced to earn her first shutout win of the season.
Dyczkowski opened the scoring just 22 seconds into the game, netting her team-leading eighth goal of the season via an assist from Vreeman.
In the second,
Laura Nagy scored at 2:34, assisted by
Eliza Quackenbush and
Sam Mathe, giving LIU a 2-0 lead.
Babington netted her first of the night at 10:39 of the third, stretching LIU's lead to 3-0. Dyczkowski and Vreeman assisted Babington's first goal.
With the net empty in the game's final minutes, Babington tacked on another goal, her team-leading 17
th point of the season, assisted by
Lisa Schröfl and
Anya Weilandt.
Babington finished the weekend with three of LIU's eight goals, as the Sharks outscored the Purple Knights 8-1 in the weekend sweep. In Saturday's win, LIU outshot Saint Michael's 43-15.
The Sharks return to action on Friday versus Assumption University in the first game of a home weekend pair. Puck drop at Northwell Health Ice Center is scheduled for 3 p.m. Television coverage will be available on FloHockey.
