Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's volleyball team (4-7, 2-0 NEC) claimed its second consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Chicago State University (0-12, 0-2 NEC) 3-1 in the Steinberg Wellness Center.
Fresh off a win over the Cougars on Friday night, the Sharks picked up right where they left off with a 25-20 defeat of Chicago State in the opening set of the match. After Chicago State claimed the second frame in 26-24, come-from-behind fashion, the match stood tied at one.
The Sharks never trailed across the final two sets, closing out the match on a 17-6 scoring run in the fourth set to win the match 3-1.
Junior Sara van Gisteren led the Sharks with 14 kills and 6 aces, followed by 12 kills by sophomore Sara Garcia and 11 by freshman Brooke Boyles. Junior Yasmeen Muhammad and van Gisteren tied for a team-high 3 total blocks, while sophomore Miabella Musignac recorded 14 digs in the win.
LIU returns to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in a home matchup against the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 6 p.m.
