CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — It was a season to remember for the LIU women's lacrosse team.
The Sharks concluded their record-breaking 2025 campaign against host and No. 5 University of Virginia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
LIU, which earned its second consecutive NEC Championship after defeating Stonehill 14-9 on May 3, faced Virginia in the NCAA Tournament opener for the second straight season.
Julia Trainor and Pierson Schuchart each scored twice in the Sharks' 20-6 loss to the Cavaliers. Catherine Batterberry and Erin Harkins also found the back of the net for LIU, while Mylie Norton recorded seven saves in goal.
LIU earned a conference-best four major awards, with Ava Burns, Julia Trainor, and Mylie Norton being named the NEC Defender, Midfielder, and Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively.
Head coach Meghan McNamara-Cafiero and her staff—Meghan Els and Brianna Lamoureux—were named NEC Coaching Staff of the Year for the second consecutive season, guiding LIU to a share of the NEC regular-season title.
