NORTH EASTON, Mass. — The LIU women's lacrosse team advanced to the NEC Championship game for the second straight season after defeating Wagner, 13-7, in the semifinal round on Thursday afternoon.
LIU jumped out to a 4-1 first-quarter lead, with goals from
Alexa Nuzzi,
Lindsey Lucia,
Ava Taylor, and
Pierson Schuchart in the opening frame.
Freshman
Catherine Batterberry and Nuzzi each scored in the second quarter as LIU took a 6-4 lead into halftime.
The Sharks dominated the third quarter, scoring all five goals to build a commanding 11-4 lead.
Julia Trainor and
Erin Harkins each scored twice in the quarter.
Ava Taylor also found the back of the net and finished the game with a hat trick.
NEC Goalkeeper of the Year
Mylie Norton recorded 11 saves in the win.
LIU advances to the NEC Finals against top-seeded Stonehill on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., Skyhawk Field.
