HACKENSACK, N.J. - The 2024-25 season came to a close for the Long Island University women's basketball team on Monday night, falling 73-44 on the road against top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson University in the first round of the Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Championship.
LIU trailed the Knights 19-11 after the first quarter and 33-22 at halftime, however the Sharks cut the deficit to single digits midway through the third quarter on back-to-back baskets by freshman guard Brianna Mead, bringing the score to 38-30 just under four minutes into the second half.
While the Sharks got rolling early in the third quarter, FDU closed out the third quarter on a 10-0 run to build back its lead, eventually defeating LIU 73-44 in the quarterfinals of the NEC Tournament.
Mead led the Sharks with 16 points in the quarterfinal matchup, closely followed by 15 points from junior guard Sirviva Legions. Sophomore guard Janessa Williams, who scored eight points in the game, led the Sharks with six rebounds. Mead also recorded a game-high four steals.
