BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University women's basketball team celebrated Senior day for its six-member graduating class, but fell to Fairleigh Dickinson University, 73-46, on Saturday afternoon at the Steinberg Wellness Center.

"Senior Day is always a bittersweet moment," said head coach
Rene Haynes. "It's a time to celebrate the hard work, leadership, and commitment of our seniors – athletes who have given their all to this program. I've watched them grow not just as players but as people, and I couldn't be prouder of their journey. I know they have bright futures ahead. Today we are excited to give them their flowers and show our appreciation from this team and this family."
In the final moments of the first quarter, FDU used a 15-0 run to seize control of the game. The Knights led 22-8 after the first quarter and 38-15 at halftime.
But LIU showed life out of the locker room, being outscored by just two possessions in the entire second half.
For the game, FDU shot 49.1 percent from the field and 40 percent (8-20) from 3-point range. LIU was held to 34-percent shooting and two of 11 from 3.
Sirviva Legions led the Sharks with 15 points and five rebounds.
Janessa Williams followed with 13 points and five boards.
FDU's Teneisia Brown led the game with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
The Sharks return to action on Thursday, March 6, versus Central Connecticut State University in the regular season finale. Opening tipoff at the Steinberg Wellness Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. Television coverage will be available on NEC Front Row.
