San Antonio, Texas — LIU dropped a close one to UTSA on Saturday, losing 6-5 despite a four-run seventh inning in an impressive push for a victory by the Sharks.
LIU fell behind 3-0 early in the first inning, but began to mount a comeback later in the contest.
Jack Power doubled home
Noah Sorensen in the sixth inning to cut UTSA's lead to two, setting the stage for the Sharks to take control not long after.
LIU ripped things open with a four-run rally in the seventh, sparked by a two-run single by
Benjamin Fierenzi with the bases loaded to help tie the game at 3 apiece. Sorensen followed suit with an RBI single of his own, helping the Sharks take the lead.
Ryan Rivera later singled Fierenzi home to make it a 5-3 game, all while adding to his team-leading RBI total of seven on the year thus far.
The Sharks went on to surrender three runs between the seventh and eighth innings, allowing UTSA to take the lead once again and secure a 6-5 win.
Garrett Yawn pitched well despite the loss for LIU, striking out five and giving up three runs in five and a third innings.
LIU and UTSA will play two more, beginning Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.
