BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University women's basketball team (5-6, 0-0 NEC) concluded non-conference play with a win over Berkeley College on Monday night, defeating the Knights 87-30 inside the Steinberg Wellness Center.
The Sharks held Berkeley to single digit points scored in each of the first two quarters, taking a 48-15 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Defensively, LIU limited the Knights to an 11-48 mark from the field, forced 33 turnovers, blocked eight shots, and doubled Berkeley on the glass (56-28).
Five Sharks finished Monday's game scoring in double figures; senior Kadidia Toure (15 points), graduate student Hannah Humphrey (12), sophomore Laura Molnarova (11), junior Janessa Williams (10), and graduate student Kionna Gaines (10). Molnarova paced LIU with 10 rebounds, recording her first career double-double. Williams and Molnarova tied for a team-high three assists, while freshman Leila Nuñez blocked three shots.
The Sharks begin NEC play on Friday, Jan. 2, traveling to face Central Connecticut State University at 4 p.m.
