Brett Rylance PP goal forces OT, Daniel Duris holds Black Knights scoreless in SO

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Trailing 4-2 in the second period, the Long Island University men's ice hockey team (7-10-1), tied the score in the final 90 seconds of regulation and edged Army-West Point (6-9-5, 2-8-3 AHA) with a shootout victory on Sunday night at Northwell Health Ice Center. The game was tied 4-4 through a scoreless overtime period, before the Sharks took the shootout 1-0.

Down two goals late in the second, Sixten Jennersjö scored with 1:32 left in the frame, assisted by Brett Rylance and Dylan Kinch, pulling LIU back within one, 4-3.

In the third period, Army's Vincent Salice took a hooking penalty at 17:16, sending LIU to the power play. Moments later, the Sharks pulled goaltender Daniel Duris and skated 6-on-4.

With the net empty for just 19 seconds, Rylance scored via assists from Anthony Lucarelli and Nick Bernardo, tying the game, 4-4, with 1:23 to play, to force overtime.

After a scoreless extra session, Noah Serdachny scored first in the shootout, putting LIU ahead 1-0. Duris stopped all three of Army's shootout attempts, including the shootout-sealing stop of Jack Ivey.

Rylance and J.R Perdion led the Sharks with a goal and an assist each. Duris faced 27 total shots and made 23 saves, including seven saves in overtime.

Trevor Griebel recorded a team-high five blocks and Jaden Dyke won 11 of 17 faceoff attempts, a team best.

In total, LIU outshot Army, 42-27, including an 18-3 shot advantage that aided the third-period comeback. The Sharks went 2-for-3 on the power play and held the Black Knights 1-for-4.
