Sharks Score 40 Second-Half Points, Defeat Missouri State on the Road

Malachi Davis leads all scorers with 18 points in win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Long Island University men's basketball team (4-3, 0-0 NEC) overcame a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Missouri State University 75-61 on Monday night, outscoring the Bears 40-21 in the second half.

LIU trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, but a made basket in the final minute helped cut the halftime deficit to 40-35 in favor of the Bears. A three-point play by junior Jomo Goings jumpstarted the Sharks just over a minute into the second half, as LIU took a 41-40 lead on a three-pointer by graduate student Jamal Fuller.

After the Sharks and Bears traded baskets early in the second half, LIU went on an extended 16-1 scoring run over nearly six minutes of game time, helping build a significant lead in its eventual 14-point road win.

Redshirt senior Malachi Davis led all scorers with 18 points, while Fuller (14 points) and senior Greg Gordon (13) also finished in double figures. Redshirt sophomore Tre'shawn Sheppard collected a team-high 10 rebounds, while Davis paced the Sharks with four assists. Fuller blocked three Bear shots in the win.

LIU returns to the Steinberg Wellness Center for a home matchup against Winthrop University on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
