Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University women's volleyball team (18-8, 15-1 NEC) claimed the NEC regular season championship with Saturday afternoon's 3-0 defeat of Stonehill College.
LIU secures its 12th NEC regular season title, its first since 2018, and will be the top seed in next week's NEC Volleyball Tournament.
After taking down Stonehill in three sets the night prior, LIU picked up right where it left off on Saturday afternoon, taking a 1-0 lead in the match by defeating the Skyhawks 25-13 in the opening frame.
LIU dominated the second set, winning 25-9, before finishing the match with a 25-14 win in the third and final frame.
The Sharks recorded a team hitting percentage of .562 in the win, led by 12 kills from junior Sara van Gisteren. The Leuth, Netherlands native also recorded a team-high nine service aces on Saturday.
Senior Karly Klaer, who was honored during the senior day ceremony following the match, led the Sharks with 33 kills. Sophomore Miabella Musignac finished the match with 10 digs.
The Sharks will host next week's NEC Volleyball Tournament in Brooklyn, beginning on Nov. 21. LIU will take on the conference's No. 4 seed and the winner will play again on Saturday, Nov. 22, in the conference championship game for a berth into the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
LIU concludes the regular season with 18 wins, the most in the Sharks era of the program. Its 15 conference wins are the most by an NEC team since the 2019.
