BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -
Trey Watkins of the Long Island University football team was named NEC Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. A redshirt junior defensive back from Rahway, New Jersey, Watkins earned the conference's top weekly defensive honor for the second time this season.
In Saturday's 29-11 victory over Duquesne University, Watkins secured his fifth interception of the season and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown. His five INTs this year ties for the most in FCS football. Watkins also added six tackles (5 solo, 1 assisted).
Watkins previously earned defensive player of the week honors in Week 9 of the season after a standout performance in LIU's 38-16 win over the University of New Haven. He is one of two players in the NEC this season to earn defensive player of the week honors more than once.
LIU returns to action on Saturday at Saint Francis University. Opening kickoff from DeGol Field in Loretto, Pennsylvania is scheduled for 12 p.m.
