BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Hasnae Goulamzi and her torrid six minute-pace garnered her the first place finish in the Women's cross country 5K at the LIU Fall Fest at Post.
The Morocco-native was near the front of the pack for the entire race before taking control during her second lap. She finished with a time of 18:44.90, nearly half a minute faster than second place.
"I am so happy to come in first, not only for myself, but also for my school," an excited Goulamzi stated. "This is the beginning of the race season and a significant outcome for our group.
Goulamzi, who was named an NEC Prime Performer last week, led the LIU women's team to a second-place team finish and a score of 41 points.
The men's squad also came in second place today, thanks in large part to a fifth-place finish from freshman
Robby Levy. Levy said, "Today went pretty good and I really pushed hard in that last mile. I think the team ran well and stayed together, and when we got closer to the end, we just tried to close as hard as we could."
Teammate
Josh Roos finished sixth, right behind Levy, with
John Schwab and
Bryan Villafuerte also nabbing top-10 spots.
