LIU women's volleyball earned thee major NEC awards after its first four games of the 2024 season.

Women’s Volleyball Racks Up Three Major NEC Awards

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Camelia Melendez, Alasha Colon, and Bella Correia were honored with NEC weekly awards after the trio shined in LIU's opening weekend on the court.

Melendez was named the NEC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week after racking up 61 kills in the first four games of the season for the Sharks. Melendez also recorded her 1,000th career kill against Youngstown State on Sept. 1 and was named to the UConn All-Tournament Team after a 40-kill performance in LIU's first tournament of the season.

Colon earned the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting 88 digs in the first four games of the season for LIU. The senior recorded 35 digs during the Sharks' home-opening 3-2 win against Quinnipiac on Tuesday.

Correia was named NEC Rookie of the Week after posting 32 kills in four games.

Melendez, Colon, and Bria Plante were also named NEC Prime Performers.

LIU next plays at Tennessee on Friday.
