Sharks Football Gets Set for its 2024 Home Opener

9/13/2024 2:05:00 PM

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — This Saturday at 12 p.m., the 2024 LIU Sharks football team will finally get the chance to defend their home turf for the first time this season at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.

After starting their season on the road against UAlbany and TCU, LIU returns home for the first time since its win over Wagner last year on November 11.

While this game is important for the Sharks, it offers some added meaning for some new arrivals that are local products. Defensive tackle Liam McCormick, who transferred from Florida State, is from Islip and is looking forward to his Long Island collegiate debut.

"It means a lot to play in my hometown and in front of all my friends and family," a proud McCormick stated. "My father has friends who used to play at LIU and I remember watching those games here on campus. It's great to be part of this program and see how far it's come and I'm excited to be part of its bright future."

Lehigh enters the game 1-1 on the season with a win over the aforementioned Wagner. Both teams will look to get their ground game going and control the clock in what's sure to be a tight and gritty matchup.

LIU and Nassau County will be celebrating "Nassau Day" to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the county. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman will lead the festivities, honoring the county's rich heritage during the game. Nassau County has distributed complimentary tickets to youth football leagues and organizations across the region. This initiative is designed to inspire young athletes and provide them with the opportunity to experience the thrill of Division I football firsthand.

Fans can catch the Sharks' home opener at 12 p.m. live on NEC Front Row.
