WORCESTER, Mass. — In a tight, defensive matchup at Holy Cross, the LIU Sharks field hockey squad went to overtime against the Crusaders on Sunday morning.
The Sharks got on the board early thanks to a goal from freshman defender
Jasmijn Roelofsen off a pass from forward
Malena Silvani.
Another freshman for LIU netted their first collegiate goal when forward
Lotte Haagmans took a Holy Cross turnover and flipped it in the back of the net to put the Sharks up 2-0 early.
After the Crusaders tied the score at two, sophomore
GiGi Ranoldo tallied her second goal of the season off a tip-in with
Juana Laskowski notching the assist.
Holy Cross responded quickly with a goal and the eventual game-winner in overtime.
LIU moves to 1-1 on the season with their next contest coming next Sunday, September 8, against Bellarmine University.
