BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Saturday was a very successful day for the LIU softball team as it celebrated Senior Day and welcomed back multiple alumni for Alumni Day.
Senior
Kira Buckner was in the circle for game one and was absolutely dominant. The Round Lake, Ill. native threw a five inning, one walk no-hitter in the victory.
The game was all Sharks early as
Mari Narvaiz doubled in the first inning, scoring
Emma Niece and
Dallas Andrews. In the second,
Dallas Andrews would score
Victoria Zatko on a groundout to second base and
Priscilla Gillies would score during the next at bat thanks to a wild pitch.
Alexia Castro and Narvaiz would keep pouring on the runs, scoring two more runs on singles to grow the lead to 6-0.
The Sharks would walk the game off in the bottom of the fifth with a run rule after a Gillies RBI single and Andrews sacrifice fly.
Game two started off a bit differently for LIU as Le Moyne would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Sharks would respond with one run in the fourth inning after an
Emma Niece RBI single and then take the lead in the fifth with a Niece RBI double.
Le Moyne would respong with a solo home run, but Narvaiaz and
Lily Hinkle would put the game away after a solo home run and RBI single and the Sharks would go on and win 6-3.
LIU finished the season with a 32-19 record, 17-7 in conference play and will be the two seed in the NEC tournament, taking on Sacred Heart on Thursday.
