Olivia Fantigrossi’s Five Goals Help Lead Women’s Lacrosse to First NEC Championship Appearance in Program History

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The LIU women's lacrosse team traveled to Sacred Heart on Thursday afternoon to take on number four seed Stonehill in the NEC Seminfinals.

The Sharks opened up the scoring with a goal from Jen Gaffney but Stonehill responded to the game at one.

The Skyhawks would gain leads at 2-1 and 3-2 but the Sharks would not let them pull away thanks to goals from Ava Taylor and Erin Harkins. Julia Trainor would strike next, giving LIU a 4-3 lead. Taylor would score LIU's fifth goal in the final seconds of the first quarter and it was all Sharks from there.

Olivia Fantigrossi and Rachel Weber struck within one minute of each to grow the lead to 7-3 early in the second. Fantigrossi would score again later in the quarter and the half would end 8-3, with the Sharks shutting out Stonehill in the second quarter.
Fantigrossi would rattle off three goals in a row to give herself five on the day in the third quarter and that was all she wrote for the Skyhawks. Stonehill tried to mount a comeback in the fourth, but it was too little too late as the Sharks marched onto the NEC championship with a 14-7 victory.

Fantigrossi's five goals led the team while Erin Harkins was second with three.

Weber led the team with two assists.

Ashley Magee, Trainor and Fantigrossi led the Sharks with three ground balls each.

Mylie Norton made seven saves.

LIU will take on Sacred Heart in the conference championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row and ESPN+.
