BRONX, N.Y. — The LIU men's lacrosse team wrapped up its record-breaking season in the MAAC semifinals against Manhattan.
The Sharks, which won a program-best 10 games since its Division I inception, went down to the wire with Manhattan at Gaelic Park on Thursday night.
LIU took a 2-0 lead after
Sean Boll and
James Butler found the back of the net in the first five minutes of regulation.
LIU found itself trailing 6-3 at the midway point of the third quarter, but the Sharks found a way to battle back.
Cam Connolly pulled the Sharks within one, and Boll scored his third goal of the game with a tally with 4:15 left in the quarter to cut LIU's deficit to one.
Drew Tongo's game-tying goal with 8:59 in regulation knotted the game at 7.
Manhattan would find the back of the net with less than five minutes to play in the fourth quarter to take an 8-7 lead.
Boll finished the game with four goals.
Sean Gillman was sharp in net for the Sharks. The Farmingdale, N.Y., native stopped eight shots.
LIU finished its season with a 10-3 regular season record and a 7-2 record in MAAC play.
Boll finished the season with a team-high 47 points (27 goals, 20 assists), and
Zander Hauck finished the season with a team-best 74 ground balls.
First Team All-MAAC
Karl LaCalandra and
Tommy Ramsey earned First Team All-MAAC honors.
Second Team All-MAAC
Tom von Bargen,
Sean Boll, and
Nick Kasica earned Second Team All-MAAC honors to close out the year.
