BROOKLYN, N.Y — The LIU softball team took a break from NEC play on Wednesday afternoon when it welcomed Hofstra to Brooklyn. 

The Sharks struck early in the first on a Mari Narvaiz single and then scored three more runs in the third thanks to a Dallas Andrews bullet single past the pitcher and Gabby Padilla two-RBI double. 

Alyssa O'Donnell and Lindsey Cowans were solid in the circle as Narvaiz's second home run of the season grew the LIU lead to six 

Hofstra would finally get in the run column after a seventh inning three-run homer but it would not be enough as the Sharks won 6-3. 

Andrews, Padilla and Narvaiz all picked up two hits on the day while Lily Hinkle, Jazmine Cuffie, Kaylee Clarkson and Priscilla Gillies all had one. 

Delaney Carnell had her first hit of the season in the third inning. 

Cowans earned her twelfth victory of the season. 

The Sharks return to the field on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. when they host Rutgers.
