Shark Sweep! Softball Grabs Two Wins Over Saint Peter's in Return to Brooklyn

BROOKLYN N.Y. — The LIU softball team opened up its home schedule on Thursday afternoon when it welcomed Saint Peter's to town for a doubleheader. 

The first game was an absolute pitcher's duel with the Sharks having to play some small ball to get the win. Lindsey Cowans threw a complete game shutout with five Ks and LIU scored two runs on one hit thanks to SAC flies by Devon Medina and Kaylee Clarkson. 

In the second game of the day the Sharks struck early on an RBI double from Gabby Padilla taking a 1-0 lead in the first. The Peacocks got one back thanks to a solo home run, but unlike the first game the bats eventually came alive for LIU. Emma Niece smoked an RBI double to left field and the runs started coming in. Dallas Andrews followed that up with a two-RBI triple and Lily Hinkle doubled Andrews home in the next at bat. In the fifth, Emma Niece doubled once again to drive in two and the Sharks cruised to a 7-2 victory. 

Alyssa O'Donnell had a nice day in the circle in game two, striking out six. 

The Sharks return to the field on Saturday for a series against Stonehill.
