BROOKLYN, N.Y. — After leading LIU to a 2-1 week,
Alasha Colon and
Bella Correia have garnered special honors.
Colon has been named NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 54 digs through three games. This included 21 against FDU on Nov. 8, helping LIU win its tenth match in a row (3-1). In that same match, Colon eclipsed the 2000 dig mark for her collegiate career, becoming just the 12th active player in Division 1 volleyball to do so.
Conversely, Correia has won once again earned NEC Rookie of the Week award honors, after receiving such recognition three times in October. The freshman had 34 kills through three games, including a season-high 17 in the aforementioned Nov. 8 victory over FDU.

Amable Martinez went on to praise the duo's contributions to the team's recent success. "Bella has made such an impact for our team since returning from injury and continues to work extremely hard to improve day in and day out. So proud of the success she is having thus far," he said. "Alasha has been a staple of our defense all year. She keeps being herself and proving herself to be one of the best defenders in the conference.
In addition to Colon and Correia,
Camelia Melendez and
Selina Koç, were also named NEC Prime Performers this week for the Sharks, who will play their next game on Friday, November 15 against Central Connecticut State at 6 p.m.
