New Haven, Conn. — With a win over Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon, LIU punched its ticket into the NEC Tournament, giving way to the team's first appearance since 2021.
"We're really proud of this team. They've put in a lot of hard work and shown a lot of perseverance through some challenging circumstances," head coach
Mike Pallister said. "t's been a tough season with them battling a heavy travel schedule and adjusting to different playing surfaces, but they've handled it all without making excuses. Now, we're looking forward to seeing how they perform in the playoffs and to seeing them continue building on what they've done so far. They've earned this opportunity, and we're ready to see them make the most of it."
Against Sacred Heart, a first quarter connection between
Malena Silvani (who scored the goal) and
Lotte Haagmans (who provided the assist) helped the Sharks set the tone and take a 1-0 lead that the team wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.
Fleur Hofman, who most recently won NEC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22, provided a steady presence in goal during the critical matchup and had three saves in the win.
LIU will now shift its focus to the NEC Tournament, with the team set to take on Wagner in the semifinals this coming Thursday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. Fans can catch all the action on NEC Front Row.
