BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU will host its first pair of NEC matchups this weekend as Saint Francis comes to town for two games, beginning with Friday, Oct 4 at 6 p.m.
The Sharks will be led by
Camelia Melendez and
Bria Plante, two standout performers throughout the season. Melendez leads the team in kills with 122 (and 47 spikes), and Plante is the team leader in spikes with 51 (84 kills).
"We look forward to getting NEC play started versus a great opponent in SFU (selected preseason #1). Going into this match, we are focusing on our side of the net and continuing to grow as a team," said LIU head coach
Amable Martinez. "This match will test us right away and we look forward to the challenge. It should be a weekend full of good volleyball."
As LIU looks to earn wins against Saint Francis, the team will also rely upon
Iremnur Elmas, who made a big impact in the team's most recent win, a 3-0 match against Iona on Sep 21. Elmas, a redshirt senior, led the team with 14 kills and 3 spikes.
Both games will be played in Brooklyn at the Steinberg Wellness Center, with Saturday, Oct 5's game set to begin at 1 p.m. Sharks fans can watch all the action on NEC Front Row.
