BROOKLYN, N.Y. — In what was a great match, men's volleyball grabbed a sweep victory (25-21, 25-21, 26-24) over Dominican University (NY) on Wednesday night.
In the first two sets, the Chargers would not go down easily but the size of the Sharks would be too much as they took a 2-0 lead into the third set. Dominican kept on battling as it would not go down easily, looking to mount a comeback with a 23-21 lead late in the set. A kill from
Gio Collazo would give LIU service and Collazo himself at the line. The San Juan P.R. native would fire the ball into the heart of Dominican's defense and with two straight service aces after a Chargers attack error, give LIU the 26-24 set victory.
Collazo lead the team with 12 kills, followed by
Chase Celichowski who had eight on an .800 hitting percentage.
Arthur Sueur had six kills on nine attempts and a tied for team-high three blocks.
Jack Sarnowski led LIU with 18 assists while
Roei Horovitz had 17.
Joseph Nunez led the Sharks with seven digs.
Kasey Clouet had five kills, three blocks, and a .364 hitting percentage.
The Sharks return to the court on Friday at 6 p.m. when they travel to Newark to take on NJIT.
