ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The women's water polo dismantled Salem in its first match on the day on Sunday morning winning by a score of 18-2.
The Sharks scored 18 goals in a row before Salem scored two of their own late. The trio of Sydney deVroedt (six goals), Paola Dominguez-Castro (four goals) and Elena Camarena (four goals) combined for 14 of the LIU goals. Ale Aranguren, Diba Periavani and Emma Sardo added the rest.
Camarena also had a team-high six assists.
Martina Giannoni had a great day in goal, making nine saves on 11 shots.
The second match of the day was a bit tougher as LIU took on a fellow ranked opponent for the second day in the row in Indiana.
After going down 4-1, LIU fought back to get back within one but it seemed like every time the Sharks would score a goal, the Hoosiers would answer with two of their own. LIU would fall 11-6.
Dominguez-Castro led the way with three goals while Peiravani, Camarena and Aranguren each scored one.
Gianonni made 13 saves in the match.
The Sharks return to the pool on Saturday when they take on Bucknell at 1:30 p.m.
