CHICAGO — The LIU women's basketball team took a break from conference play on Monday afternoon when they traveled to future NEC foe Chicago State.
The game was a fight early on with the Sharks taking an early ten-point lead just for Chicago State to take it back midway through the second quarter. An
Emaia O'Brien three-pointer would give LIU a three-point lead heading into halftime and from there it never looked back
The Sharks would lead for the entire second half and win the game 66-58.
Ashley Austin was the team leader in points with 21 while also recording five assists, three rebounds and two steals.
O'Brien would finish the game with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Mariah Elohim recorded her fifth straight game with 10+ points, scoring 11.
Sydni Smith had her best game of the year, scoring eight points and tallying a season-high 10 rebounds.
The Sharks return to the court and NEC play on Friday at 7 p.m. when Saint Francis U comes to the Steinberg Wellness Center.
