Women's Volleyball Dominates Le Moyne, Grabs Second Conference Win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. The LIU women's volleyball grabbed its second NEC victory under Amable Martinez on Friday night.

The Sharks took care of conference newcomer Le Moyne in a swift manner, sweeping the Dolphins in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-12).

The offense was humming as Amaris Smith, Camelia Melendez, Indira Benitez and Cristal Paulino Rubel combined for 23 of LIU's 34 kills in the match. Benitez had a hitting percentage of .429 while Paulino Rubel tallied a .750 hitting percentage in her first match back from injury.

Selina Koç once again led the Sharks in assists with 18 while Allie Merz was second on the team with nine. Merz also recorded two kills on three attempts, her most in a match this season.

The Sharks continued their hot stretch from the service line in NEC play, tallying a combined ten service aces. Melendez led the team with four followed by Alasha Colon with three, Smith with two and Koç with one.

On the defensive side of the ball, Colon led the match in digs with 13 as Bria Plante led LIU with four total blocks.

"Tonight was a good bounce back and complete team win after a tough five set loss to Sacred Heart," head coach Amable Martinez said. "It was good to receive contributions from every single player that entered the match."

The Sharks return to the court on Saturday when they travel to Loretto, Pa. to take on Saint Francis U at 5 p.m.
