BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — A pair of wins to begin the season has landed a pair of LIU women's soccer players season-opening NEC weekly honors.
Defender
Caroline Nuttall has been selected NEC Defensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper
Keely Thomas has earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
In addition, Nuttall, Thomas and freshman forward
Noa Bartels van Bosbeek were named NEC Prime Performers.
Thomas has now produced back-to-back shutouts to begin her collegiate career. A redshirt freshman from Richmond, Va., she recorded one save in a 3-0 win at Saint Peter's and five saves in a 1-0 win at Rider.
Nuttall, a captain and graduate student from Williston Park, handled center back and anchored a defense that recorded the consecutive shutouts.
And Bartels van Bosbeek, a freshman from Güéjar Sierra, Granada, Spain, has burst onto the collegiate scene. The 5-foot-10 forward recorded the final goal in the win at Saint Peter's in her collegiate debut. Three days later, her first-half shot, which was redirected by
Matiana Valdez in front of the Rider goalkeeper, earned Bartels van Bosbeek the assist on Sunday's game-winner against the host Broncs.
LIU (2-0) next welcomes UMBC for Sunday's noon home opener at LIU Soccer Park. The game may be
viewed on NEC Front Row, with Alan Fuehring on the play-by-play call.
