FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The LIU softball team earned the No. 2 seed in the NEC Tournament with a win in Sunday's regular-season finale.
The Sharks defeated host Sacred Heart, 2-1, in a rainout makeup to complete the previous weekend's series.
LIU pulled even with Central Connecticut at 14-7 in the NEC. And the Sharks took the second seed in the conference tourney by virtue of winning the season series between the teams.
Regardless, LIU and Central Connecticut already were slated to play Thursday in Loretto, Pa., in an opening-round game of the double-elimination tournament.
Against Sacred Heart on Sunday,
Sam Garcia's infield single in the sixth plated
Maya Avila to break a 1-all tie.
Garcia finished 3-for-3 and drove in both runs.
Lindsey Cowans surrendered just one unearned run while striking out eight in a complete game.
