LORETTO, Pa. — The LIU Sharks are the inaugural Northeast Conference men's volleyball champs.
The third-seeded Sharks defeated top-seeded and host Saint Francis U, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20, in Saturday's championship game.
LIU previously ousted sixth-seeded Merrimack on Wednesday and second-seeded Daemen on Thursday.
In the first final in the conference's history, three Sharks reached double-digits in kills:
Livan Moreno (12),
Caden Satterfield (11) and
Luke Chandler (10).
Gio Collazo had 12 digs.
Chandler was named tournament MVP and joined Satterfield and Moreno on the all-tournament team.
The NEC does not yet have an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
LIU completed the second season in program history with an 19-11 overall record.
"It's well-deserved recognition for a family of young men who worked hard all season long to perform like a top program all week," coach
Kai Dugquem said. "We never had a doubt on their ability to play at a high level, and are just super proud of their consistent performance all week. It's always a great day to be a Shark."
