Women's Tennis Sweeps Way into Sunday's NEC Championship Match

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The LIU women's tennis team is one win from the NEC Championship.

The top-seeded Sharks swept fourth-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-0, in a semifinal on Saturday.

LIU now advances to the championship against second-seeded Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Against St. Francis Brooklyn, the Sharks won the doubles point, then got straight-set wins from Victoria Erechtchenko at first singles, Leo Boisseau at second singles and Saki Oyama at third singles to close out the match.

"It was a solid performance from us today," coach Jan Griga said. "We had to deal with some weather moving through the area, so the matches were moved indoors. It's a credit to the team for adjusting very quickly and taking care of business in a straightforward fashion.

"We are ready and confident going into Sunday's final."
