BROOKLYN, N.Y. —The LIU men's volleyball team seemingly didn't want its regular season to end.
The Sharks staved off a dozen match points before ultimately falling to Sacred Heart, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23, 22-25, 29-27, on Saturday at Steinberg Wellness Center in the final match of the regular.
LIU, the third seed, now faces sixth-seeded Merrimack on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the opening round of the inaugural NEC Tournament.
Top-seeded Saint Francis U will host the first-ever NEC men's volleyball tournament.
In Saturday's match, Caden Satterfield led the way for the Sharks with a team-high 23 kills and four blocks. Satterfield also added an ace to his outstanding performance.
Luke Chandler picked up 19 kills and Livan Moreno finished the contest with 17.
Luca Holanda tallied a team-high 58 assists.
The Sharks finished their regular season 16-11.
