BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU women's basketball team wrapped up its final home game of the season inside the Steinberg Wellness Center — and it was one to remember.
Ashley Austin, Cristina Bermejo, Iris Mbulito and Shyan Mwai were honored on senior night ahead of the Sharks' 78-72 win against Stonehill.
Austin, LIU's leading scorer, led all players with 25 points. The senior from from Compton, California, also played a game-high 33 minutes for the Sharks.
Senior Cristina Bermejo played a strong game, too. The guard scored 16 points and dished out four assists in LIU's fifth win of the season.
Shyan Mwai's layup with 1:24 left in regulation sealed the deal for the Sharks. LIU took a 72-65 lead and never looked back.
Sophomore guard Emaia O'Brien finished the game with 17 points. Iris Mbulito did not play due to injury.
LIU next plays Saturday at 7 p.m. at Saint Francis University.
