Men's Water Polo Wraps Up Season at NWPC Tournament, Explodes for 25 Goals Against Conn College

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. —  The LIU men's water polo team wrapped up its season over weekend when it took on Connecticut College and MIT in two NWPC Tournament Consolation games.

In the Saturday match against Conn College, the Sharks went down 1-0 early, but quickly busted the game open when they went on a 15-1 run. The miraculous run was led by Riyad Shehadeh, Josep Jodra Muñoz and Karl Lovett, the top three goal scorers on the team. LIU would not let up and would go on to win the match 25-5.

Jodra Muñoz led the Sharks with six goals, followed by Shehadeh who had five, Lovett and Ben LeClair who each had four. The other goal scorers were Logan Morgan (three), Liam Schlosser (two) and goalkeeper Ethan Zirh who scored his first and only goal of the season.

Zirh also made 20 saves in the match.

The Sunday match against MIT was a much different story. This match was tightly contested all the way through with both the Sharks and Engineers fighting until the end. Whenever one team would gain a lead, the other would storm back to tie it.

LIU trailed by two late and a goals by Ben LeClair and Riyad Shehadeh in the dying minute sent the match to overtime. Unfortunately for the Sharks, their luck would run out as MIT would net two in overtime and take the match 14-12.

Shehadeh and Josep Jodra Muñoz led the Sharks with four goals. Shehadeh finished the season with a team-high 95 goals while Jodra Muñoz was second with 66. Ben LeClair scored two while Karl Lovett and Logan Morgan each had one.

Ethan Zirh made sixteen saves, finishing the season with 433. The Sydney, Australia native will finish his career with 1,288 saves.
