Women's Volleyball Takes on Saint Francis U in Season Finale; Prepares for NEC Playoffs

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—  The LIU women's volleyball wrapped up its regular season on Saturday when it took on Saint Francis U at home.
 
The Sharks fought hard in the first set, turning a seven- point deficit into two late but it would be not enough as they fell. Saint Francis would take the second set as well, but int the third LIU looked to make a comeback. A flurry of kills gave the Sharks the win, but it woke up the Red Flash and they took the match in the fourth set. The Sharks fell 22-25, 14-25, 25-15, 22-25.
 
Camelia Melendez led the team in kills once again with 12. She finishes her season with 315, good enough for second in the NEC. Amaris Smith finished the year second on the team and fifth in the NEC with 275 kills.
 
Rumur Rouille, Cristal Paulino Rubel and Melendez were all tied for the team lead with three blocks, Rouille led the NEC in both blocks (119) and blocks/set (1.18). Bria Plante was third in blocks/set with 0.98.
 
Selina Koç led LIU with 18 assists. She finishes the season as the Sharks leader in assists and third in the NEC with 717.
 
Alasha Colon was the leader in digs with 12. She finishes the season as the NEC leader with 558 digs, almost 200 more than second place. She also led in digs/set with 5.47.
 
The Sharks will prepare this week for the NEC playoffs. As the four seed, they will take on host school Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. on Friday.
