YAPHANK, N.Y. — The LIU equestrian team finished as the high-point team for the second week in a row to begin the 2023-24 academic year.
Also at the event hosted on Sunday by St. Joseph's University,
Sam Koeppel finished as high-point rider and
Anna Perlow as reserve high-point rider.
To begin the day, Perlow and Koeppel took wins in open over fences.
In intermediate fences,
Shelby McKie took the win,
Julia Bonvino second,
Peyton LaFrenz fourth and SophiaMirando fifth.
In limit over fences,
Brooke Keen,
Ally Perticone and
Tori Cohen took wins,
Alyssa Baychuk took second,
Megan Rodier,
Lizette Kelly and Rebeca Kats were third, and
Adaryn Docherty and
Samantha Capuano placed fifth.
During the second part of the day, Koeppel won in open flat, Perlow and Baychuk were second, and LaFrenz was third.
In intermediate flat, Mirando won,
Bianca Törnecrantz took second and Bonvino was third.
In limit flat, Rodier, Kelly,
Ariella Portnov and
Kathryn Gargiulo took wins,
Abigail Clarke and
Paige Mather took second,
Sarah Daniels and
Erin Gutzeit took third, and
Brooke Keen was fifth.
In novice flat,
Alyssa Kolesnikova,
Tori Mattera and
Savannah Negron took wins,
Saige Hinch and
Emily Yonkes were second and
Emily Mulhern was fifth.
In pre-novice,
Sam Kauhaus and
Brooke Greenstein took wins.
In introductory,
Amanda Esposito won,
Alyssa Napoli took second and
Rhiannon Bradley took fourth.
The Sharks are back in the ring Oct. 22 at the Molloy-sponsored competition at DDR Farm in Melville.
