BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Mia Tsoukalas' first month with the LIU women's tennis team has been award-winning.
Tsoukalas, a freshman from Adelaide, South Australia, went 5-1 in singles and 2-1 with doubles partner
Leo Boisseau during events at a pair of Ivy League schools.
And on Wednesday, Tsoukalas was named the Northeast Conference's first Player of the Month
and Rookie of the Month of the 2023-24 academic year.
"She's unbelievable," coach
Chad Davis said. "As a freshman coming in, she hit the ground running. She's calm, cool and collected."
Tsoukalas and men's tennis freshman Victor Sjöström additionally were named NEC Prime Performers for September.
Playing in events at Penn and Columbia, Tsoukalas had tremendous success. After losing her first collegiate match, she won five straight, against opponents from Penn State, Temple, Virginia Commonwealth and Columbia.
LIU next competes in the ITA Regional beginning Friday.
