BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Lexi Smith finished third in the women's race as the LIU cross country teams participated in the NEC Championships on Saturday.

LIU hosted the event.

Smith produced a 5K time of 18:45.3.

Josephine Critchley was second among the LIU women with a time of 19:39.5.

The women finished seventh of nine teams.

On the men's side, Elyas Ayyoub had a sizable lead with roughly 1,550 meters to go. However, he miscounted laps and accidentally stopped with one lap remaining. By the time he restarted, he could only recover to finish 10th.

Ayyoub, along with Smith, nonetheless earned All-NEC honors.

The men finished sixth of nine teams.
