Equestrian Opens Season with Slew of Wins in Selden

SELDEN, N.Y. — The LIU equestrian team opened its season with success on Sunday at Old Town Equestrian Center in an event hosted by Stony Brook University.

To open the day, Sam Koeppel finished second and Anna Perlow third in open over fences.

In intermediate fences, Shelby McKie won, while Bianca Törnecrantz and Julia Bonvino were second, Kathryn Gargiulo was third and Peyton LaFrenz was fifth.

In limit fences, Julianna Tag, Alyssa Baychuk, Megan Rodier and Emmaree Hernandez took wins, Ariella Portnov, Abigail Clarke and Samantha Capuano were second, Ally PerticoneAdaryn Docherty and Sophia Mirando were third, and Alyssa Buback and Helen Chimbos were fourth.

During the second half of the day, Baychuk and LaFrenz took wins in open flat, Koeppel took second and Perlow took fourth.

In intermediate flat, Bonvino and McKie took home wins and Törnecrantz came in third.

In limit flat, Emily Lonegro, Tori Cohen, Emmaree Hernandez and Portnov came in first, Brooke Keen, Sarah Daniels, Kathryn Gargiulo and Erin Gutzeit second, Buback, Ally Perticone, Megan Rodier and Helen Chimbos third, Rebecca Kats and Paige Mather fourth, and Docherty, Arwen Talbot and Sam Capuano fifth.

In novice, Anna Maria Polcini and Emily Mulhern took wins, Grace Catanese second, Natalie Farina third, Alyssa Kolesnikova fifth, and Olivia Korzep and Emily Yonkes sixth.

In pre-novice, Saige Hinch won.

In introductory, Amanda Esposito and Abigail Zwilling took wins and Rhiannon Bradley was second.

The Sharks return to action next weekend at a St. Joseph's-hosted competition in Yaphank.
