BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Ashley Austin turned up the energy with a half-court heave while the buzzer expired in the second quarter while fouled.
That energy followed LIU women's basketball for the remainder of the afternoon.
The Sharks defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 69-54, in the 30
th Annual Battle of Brooklyn.
Both teams traded punches in an evenly matched third. LIU and St. Francis each shot 8-17 from the floor and each hit three three-pointers.
With the win, the Sharks snapped their 17-game losing streak that dated back to early November.
Austin was named the Battle of Brooklyn Most Valuable Player after leading all scorers with 25 points.
Claire Henson added 10 off the bench. Dia Denes and
Cristina Bermejo each chipped in eight points.
As a team, the Sharks outscored the Terriers, 34-22, in points in the paint.
LIU returns to action Thursday at noon vs. Merrimack.
