BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU men's basketball battled against Stonehill for the first time in program history on Friday night.
 
The Sharks fell to the Skyhawks, 73-66.

Tonight's contest featured the Stars of Honors, a program that highlights the academic success of local K-5 students. Multiple spectators were honored for their success in the classroom.
 
LIU came out of the gate hot and made three of their first four shots.
 
The Skyhawks were able to catch up and take a 12-point lead into the locker room.
 
Andre Washington and Marko Maletic combined for 24 of LIU's 33 points at the break. Both guards were efficient from the floor; Washington was 5-10 and Maletic was 4-7 to start.
 
LIU was 4-8 from downtown in the first 20 minutes. The Skyhawks shot a scorching 59% from the field, the main reason for their halftime advantage.
 
LIU shot close to 60% in the second half, but its 10 turnovers proved costly as the closest the lead would be cut down to was eight.
 
Maletic and Washington each scored 17 points. C.J. Delancy added nine points and four rebounds, and Tre' Wood had eight points and six assists.
 
LIU returns to action Sunday vs. Central Connecticut State at noon.
